(Almost) Everybody knows that Google adwords and adsense revenue is the talk of the Internet. More and more website owners are learning proven techniques of how to add small source code (takes about 5 minutes) to your website and then (if placed correctly – within the content of your website) the checks begin to roll in.
But, here’s the deal. Most people understand that adsense is great but a lot of those people have no clue what to do with it. Are you one of them? I sure was. Notice the word “was.”
I’m what you call a research junkie. I love to read and “sift and sort.” I take the good stuff and discard the junk. So let me share a little of of what I know about the difference between adwords and adsense.
Who and What is a Google?
Well if you’re new to the Internet you may ask, who is Google and what do they have to do with Adsense? Great question.
Google is a U.S.-based corporation, established in 1998 and is currently the largest and major “Search Engine” on the Internet. It’s a tool for finding resources on the World Wide Web AND, get this, Google scans web pages to find instances of the keywords you have entered in the search box and ranks web pages in a list by giving weight to the links that reference a specific page by keywords.
Okay, you got that? Yes, but what is Adsense?
AdSense is an advertising program run by Google. Web site owners can enroll in this program to enable text and image advertisements on their sites. These ads are administered by Google and generate revenue on a per-click basis. Those wanting to advertise with Google’s targeted ad system may sign up through AdWords.
Many sites use AdSense to monetize their content and some webmasters work hard to maximize their own AdSense income. They do this in three ways:
- They use a wide range of traffic generating techniques including but not limited to online advertising.
- They build valuable content on their sites; content which attracts AdSense ads and which pay out the most when they get clicked.
- They use copy on their websites that encourage clicks on Ads.
Now we’re getting somewhere <grin>. Well you know the old saying, “knowledge is power?” Nah… it’s the APPLICATION of knowledge that makes it’s so powerful.
Signing up with Google Adsense is easy!
What is Adwords?
I’m going to keep it simple here – I went to Google and grabbed their definition …
Adwords is the Cost Per Click text advertising used by Google, it’s also the service that accepts advertisements for placement on others’ websites. Advertisers pay Google for this service, and Google shares this revenue with the other website owners who publish these ads.
In a nutshell, “Google AdWords” is a quick and simple way to advertise on Google,” and better yet – there are various ways to make money with adwords.
Now if you don’t know what you’re doing like I once did – you can find yourself spending a lot of unnecessary money.
Here are just a few things you’ll need to learn before utilizing google adwords:
- what is pay-per-click?
- what are click thru rates?
- what are keywords?
- site optimization
- creating landing pages
I like a post recently written by a mastermind colleague of mine, Adriana on Make Money with Adwords. In this post she talked about the value of adwords ‘quality score’ as well as how to make money with adwords instead of overspending.
Can you tell the difference? I know it might seem a little overwhelming to you however, if you take the time to understand the power and difference of adwords and adsense you’ll be pleasantly pleased with the results.
