Mental blocks often occur when we work a lot, under a lot of pressure, worrying or just plain tired.
Some people are just not good when it comes to tight deadlines or even when the stakes are high.
Here are a few tips to fight past the mental block problems:
- Take a short break and take time to breathe. This will help to clear your mind.
- Try writing down whatever comes to mind. Use the “stream of conscious” method. This allows one to get out as many ideas as possible, even if they aren’t organized ideas. New ideas often come from using this method and it’s a relaxed, less formal way to be productive.
- Get together with co-workers or close friends. This may help you get ideas or think of new ways to go about getting past your mental block. With more people sharing their ideas, you may learn a new way to go about solving your problem and will get the advice of the people around you. You never know, it may spark your imagination and get the ball rolling again.
- Exercise. If you have access to a treadmill, time yourself for about 15 minutes and just peddle! This removes stress, helps you to breathe better resulting in better concentration.
- Read a good book or report pertaining to something you want to accomplish. If the book is less than 50 pages, it’s less intimidating when it comes to completing it. Pull out your yellow highlighter and highlight the areas that resonate with you. Then put it down and come back to it when you have time to focus and apply action.
One of the things I do to clear my mind is to arrange alone time. Get in a quiet place with a tablet and pen and just write down all the ideas floating around in your head. Figure out what different tasks have to be competed, and what needs to be done to accomplish each one. This way, you can tackle projects in segments, which may be less intimidating.
Join a mastermind group that’s productive and provides lots of compelling content (ideas and how to instructions). I love a good mastermind group – it helps me to strategically think out what I desire to do while providing the answers on just how to do it!
Out of all of these suggestions, staying calm is the most important. If you are stressed, unmotivated, and not confident, it will be more difficult to complete your task and you won’t be able to get past the mental block.

Great post Regina. One thing that really helps me get past the mental block is to have a plan or system in place. By nature, I must be organized otherwise I’ll fiddle-faddle around all day procrastinating and not doing what needs to be done. However, when I have a strategic plan already in place I know what my next step is, or my next task, or my next project.
Also within my strategic plan, I schedule “me” time, and this is where I’ll plan for a pedicure, or a walk in the woods, or, like you said, get into my quiet place and just be still.
I find that when I’m organized, I have less mental blocks and I can remain calm throughout my day, during a product launch, or when learning something new.
Thanks again for a great post!

Hi Kelli!
If I could just be a little bit more organized, that would be great, LOL!
The quiet time works best for me because my mind is always thinking ~ our best results begin with a thought.
Thanks for sharing~
