Empty Promises

Empty PromisesOne of the most frustrating things I see online is when someone sends a blast email to their subscribers promising a surprise, only to find out that the surprise is…

EMPTY! and…

All about THEM!

I don’t know about you but that’s what makes me hit the unsubscribe link and delete button really fast.

At the same time, it’s a well learned lesson of what NOT to do in talking with my subscribers.

It’s really important to put yourself in the shoes of the person reading your newsletter or ezine.  If you — yourself — received an email and the subject line read: “Your Surprise In Here” – wouldn’t you expect to receive something that is REALLY a surprise?

Well that’s what happened to me when I opened an email from someone who is supposed to be ‘all that and a bag of chips. ‘

What was the surprise you ask?

Selfish GreedThey talked about how much money they were about to make and then said your surprise is… “ask me any question you want”.  That was it.

First and foremost, marketers need to really understand that MOST people aren’t interested in how much money you’re making or about to make.  They’re more interested in the ‘how to’ of business.  They sign up for information – not hype.

My Rule

As you can tell, I’m a very outspoken person.  Not rude, not mean, not sassy or a loud mouth either.  I just know from experience that speaking your mind about the truth – will set you free!

My rule is to unsubscribe and delete anything that comes through my inbox that isn’t a solution or provide a call to [solution-able] action.  It doesn’t matter who it is, I’m not a groupee and I don’t get excited about someone else’s wealth.  I commend them for their hard work and when it’s done with the right intent, I’m happy for them.

You don’t have to be intimidated by [online] guru’s.  Why?  Because [internet marketing] guru’s make money off of YOU!  They’re wealth is accumulated by the masses of people who at one point or another trusted them to provide them with a solution to a challenge so, they purchase their products.  As a matter of fact, some people have taken the definition of guru and and disrespected it like a plague.   That’s another whole conversation that we’ll talk about later ;-)

The point of this message?

Keep it Real!Keep it real!  Be upfront with your subscribers.  Don’t give them empty, worthless promises.  Answer their questions FOR REAL, not some half sided answer that won’t help them solve anything, only to confuse them even more.

Create REAL relationships with them so they can make an informed decision as to whether or not you can REALLY help them without a bunch of hype.  It’s about THEM, their needs, their challenges and a solution.

And by all means, if you offer them a surprise – given them a GOOD one that won’t cost them their first born child or mortgage!  Make it about THEM and their rainbow, while creating a sincere, lasting and trusting relationships with the people who pressed the send button on your opt-in box.

I’d love to read your comments on this below and make sure you subscribe above “Keep In Touch” so you can read more of my updates ~ Thanks!

Until next time,

I’m keeping it real…
